Falmouth University Graduate Fashion Show 5 - 2014

It was a brilliant sunny day for a fashion show at this location.
We were on the top two floors of the car park and the sun was shining through the sides.
The best thing about spreading it over two floors was that there was much more front row space. More of the audience were closer and it was easier to see the detail in the students work.

There was a huge variety of skill and craftsmanship throughout the collections, with each student's style very different from the next. There was a frequent use of neon colours as well as rustic hues. This contrast was also mimicked in the materials used across the board.
Some opted for plastics, metallic fabrics, foam and neoprene, where as other styled their collections in wool fibre, leather, frayed cotton and chiffon. Some mixed contrasting fabrics together.

There was a very high technical level especially within the Performance Sportswear pathway. Padded jackets and ski wear with zips, pockets and hoods are no mean feat.
There was a lot of experimentation with shape and tailoring. I especially enjoyed the collection using really big sculptural shapes on the body in wadding and foam.

For some reason most designers chose to use the same style chunky jelly heel shoes (a pet hate of mine anyway) making most of the footwear styles the same, which I found disappointing. However one student did use recycled tyres to make men's sandals with which had a boat like effect which were imaginative.
A great mix of designs by the students and a credit to Jane and Patrick Gottellier the course leaders.
