I am returning to Meghan as this month's muse to re-cap over her first season attending summer events as a member of the British Royal family.
HRH The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is with out doubt a style icon for modern occasion wear and the summer of 2018 has been a fashion triumph for the new princess.
At the Trooping of the Colours, she wore a completely plain disk shaped hat by Philip Treacy, worn at an angle in nude pink to complement her military inspired button down dress. She looked pretty but not ostentatious.
Royal Ascot….This was a very important one as it’s a favourite of the Royal Family and the British public where everyone makes a real effort to dress up and (almost) anything goes. However, it’s safe to say she nailed it again with a very unusual but elegant Philip Treacy hat, edged with black translucent crin and trimmed with ostrich quills and a patent leather twist.
During Wimbledon she sent sales of Panama hats rocketing with the classic style paired with Ralph Lauren shirt and trousers. She chose the slightly more unusual twisted dimple crown shape to be that bit more unique (as usual). - I sell panama hats in my studio, not all of which are online so do get in touch for more details.
In August she chose Philip Treacy as her milliner once more. He made her a very neat percher pill box hat in dark navy with twists of buntle to compliment her understated dress (I can see a pattern emerging).
And finally at the Christening of HRH Prince Louis she stood out from the crowd by wearing head to toe khaki green (as apposed to the usual pastel worm by many of the other guests). It suited her perfectly and I really admired her Stephen Jones hat which looked like it was made using wire and translucent stocking type fabric. A style of hat I have never seen before but it marked the occasion with grace and respect.
I would sum up Meghan’s occasion wear choices as refined and original yet understated.
