When Holly Started off her millenary business in her bedroom a few short years ago she could never had imagined her name would be linked with the likes of Faberge, Christian Lacroix and Cartier .But after receiving an unexpected email her work is now being displayed at Selfridges in London with these names and many more in the lead up to an exciting charity event.
Holly's email invited her to created two masks for a celebrity packed masquerade ball hosted by Prince Charles in aid of the Elephant Family.
The Elephant family is a charity that raises money for the endangered Asian elephant as well as other rare species. The money they raise helps protect the animals and their natural habitats Teaming up with duke of Cornwall The Elephant family have created the Animal Ball. The animal ball will be attended by celebrities and fundraisers with tickets costing up to 1000 pounds. Each person invited is given a mask made by a select range of designers including our very own Holly Young.
Each designer including Jasper Conrad and Jenny Packham and Dita Von Teese . was asked to create two masks of any animal of their choice. Holly forever promoting Cornwall chose to make a Cornish chough mask ( A rare bird used in the Cornish emblem ) And a flamingo.
The two masks were beautifully contrasting, the dark colouring of the chough with the bright flamboyant colouring of the flamingo. The two masks were hand sculpted by Holly then covered in a range of hand dyed feathers .Both were encrusted with Swarovski crystals and jewels inspired by the way elephants are decorated in India.
Holly's name was put forward by another Milliner, Piers Atkinson, who also create masks for the ball,. Having followed Holly's work in the world of millenary he recommended her to the comity at the elephant family. And having looked at her work they emailed her saying 'they would keep their paws crossed' that she would join with the other designers to make the beautiful creations that celebrities like Joanna Lumley, Paloma Faith and Christian Louboutin will ware.
Its and amazing opportunity for Holly to show off her incredible talent Having worked and admired other milliners like Jane Taylor and Philip Treacy she now finds her name and work alongside theirs in her own right .
