Real Brides - 1950s Inspired Birdcage Veil and Vintage Lily

The best thing about my job is I get to meet people during one of the happiest times of their life. Jo was a complete joy to work with and you can see by all of the fabulous pictures, that she really didn't stop smiling all day!

My fellow Princes House studio 'housemate' Annalise Harvey was commissioned by Jo to make this beautiful 1950's inspired circle skirt gown. She really did look the part and the dress suited her perfectly. I love the lace fabric over the back and arms.

Jo wanted a suitable vintage veil to go with her dress and already had in her mind that she wanted a birdcage veil. She was intending on commissining a bespoke piece and tried on some samples to get an idea of what looked right. I had already made 'Lily' which was made using vintage silk flowers, loops made from a material called sinnimay and it had the larger size 'merry widow' veiling which was dotted with pearls. Jo tried it on and said 'I want this one it's perfect'. Well that was simple. It just suited her face and gave her the little bit of extra height that she wanted.

The great thing about this style of veil is that you can have it down over your face during the ceremony and then flip it backwards and pin it out of the way for the reception (you can use a curby grip to hold in in the right place). Then you can keep in on all day and it won't get in the way of you eating.  You can see how Jo has done this in the last picture.

Seeing these pictures of her on her wedding day makes me so happy, Annie did a superb job on the dress and Cornish Photographer Kieth Reily captured the day in such a fun and fly-on-the-wall kind of way. It certainly looked like a day to remember!
