HEDONISTIC HEADPIECES winter 2014 millinery collection out now!

Hats for women have gone through various incarnations. Once seen as a practical necessity for the working classes, the bland utilitarian cloth cap was de rigour for many women: it muted individuality, and marked out one’s inferior social status. At the other end of the scale, plumes of feathers emanating from racy, angled and disproportionately huge hats signified the height of eccentric fashion – and affluence - for the cutting edge Georgian aristocrat.
Be it in summer or as we move into autumn, too often we settle for seeing the hat as simply a practical object. Of course, a cosy beanie has its place on frosty morning walks; the ubiquitous base-ball cap forever useful for omitting the sun’s glare on the summer-time beach, but we should also remember the lesson of fun, frivolity and fantasy from our fashionista sisters of yore.
Why be boring? A question asked and answered with Holly’s luxurious new collection.
Here, women enter a playground of the imagination where crystal encrusted fronds rise gracefully from pools of deep blues and vivid yellows; where feathers arch like the wings of mythical birds caressing wearers’ heads; where subtle organic shapes – butterflies, leaves - speak of the vivacity of the tropics and emulate the colouring of a luscious rainforest.
Pearls, lace and simply the best materials mark this collection’s luxurious pedigree: these are pieces to be talked about and coveted, whether as the finishing touch to a bridal ensemble, the crowning glory to a race-day outfit or the focal point to that all important festive look.
Although vivacious, subtle touches attest to the collection’s intricate craftsmanship: look for gems in silk folds, delicate pearl beading setting off lace flora and expertly layered textures creating three dimensional organic montages.
Why do women wear hats when it’s not a practical necessity? Because, the right hat – made beautifully; made creatively – imbues those attributes to the wearer. Simply, a headpiece can elevate an outfit from the average to the awesome and awe inspiring; from the mundane to the memorable and mentionable.
This collection – creative, beautiful, luxurious – makes you feel the same way: affording you a passport into a very real fantasy land. ‘Headonism’, indeed.
